Creative New Zealand is delighted to announce its partnership with the new-look Australia Performing Arts Market (APAM).
The partnership is strategically aligned to Creative New Zealand’s International Programme which connects New Zealand artists and arts organisations with global markets and audiences, develops international networks and capability, and offers opportunities for cultural and artistic exchange.
Established in 1994, APAM is one of Australia’s largest performing arts markets designed to showcase Australian and New Zealand contemporary dance, theatre, emerging and experimental arts nationally and internationally.
A new addition to APAM’s model, Gatherings, combine elements of a traditional performing arts market with full-length public performances. Through Creative New Zealand’s Performing Arts Market Development programme, New Zealand artists with strategic market development plans will have the opportunity to profile their work at APAM, when it hosts the first of its Gatherings at the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts (Asia TOPA) in Melbourne from 24 – 28 February 2020.
Creative New Zealand’s Senior Manager Arts Development Services, Cath Cardiff says, “We are very pleased to continue our long association with this important platform in the Asia Pacific region.”
“It’s a great opportunity for New Zealand practitioners to think strategically about how to market their work to international buyers and audiences,” she says.
New Zealand artists are encouraged to apply to Profile. Profile sessions at the APAM Gathering have three types: Pitches, Snapshot and Tour-Ready. Up to six spaces are available for New Zealand artists/companies to participate in Profile. Creative New Zealand will offer each successful artist/company $2,000 towards their travel and one APAM registration fee.
As part of the selection process, expressions of interest will be assessed by APAM’s curatorial panel made up of 11 Australian and international artists and presenters, and includes a representative from the New Zealand arts sector. The panel will curate the selection of the Profile sessions, influence the wider Asia TOPA Gathering by contributing to other APAM programmes and events, and determine priorities for international visitor invitations.
APAM have just completed a series of Roadshows across Australia. A dedicated online Q&A with APAM and Creative New Zealand will be held on August 14, 1.00pm NZ time for New Zealand artists who have questions or would like more information about the Profile expression of interest — register here.
Profile expressions of interest close midnight (AEST) Friday 30 August, with successful applicants notified by Tuesday 1 October. For more information and to apply, visit the APAM website. APAM is currently developing ‘First Timers’ and ‘First Nations Producing’ programmes through which New Zealand practitioners will be able to apply for Creative New Zealand funding to participate in APAM. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
Under the partnership, APAM and Creative New Zealand have agreed to jointly host visitors across the first quarter of 2020 as part of Creative New Zealand’s International Visitor Programme Te Manu Ka Tau: Flying Friends (TMKT). The programme profiles New Zealand arts to key international contacts, to increase awareness of and raise the market profile of artists and institutions/companies.
