This scholarship is funded by a bequest by Jack Malfroy Butland through the Butland Music Foundation which was established in 1994. It enables talented young musicians to further performance studies overseas.
Previous recipients include:
- Lauren Bennett: $4000 towards a Master of Music at Yale School of Music in violin, and participation in the Bowdoin International Music Festival (2018)
- Dorothy Raphael $3,800 towards a master of performance in orchestral percussion at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2015)
- Alexander Wilson $5,000 towards a masters in advanced vocal studies at The Welsh International Academy of Voice, Cardiff (2013)
- Anna McGregor $10,000 towards a masters degree in clarinet at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm (2011)
- Amalia Hall $15,000 towards postgraduate study in violin at the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia (2009)
- Blair Sinclair $8,000 towards post-graduate studies in trombone performance at the Manhattan School of Music (2005)
