Later this month, key people from the international performing arts world will come to New Zealand to see local work on home soil and to consider presenting and showing it overseas.

Nineteen delegates from Korea, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, China and Singapore will be in Wellington and Auckland from 27 February to 5 March for Creative New Zealand’s highly successful international visitor programme, Te Manu Ka Tau: Flying Friends.

The delegates will take part in a bespoke programme of shows from New Zealand Festival and Auckland Arts Festival, events, meetings and showcases.

About Te Manu Ka Tau

Creative New Zealand’s Te Manu Ka Tau: Flying Friends programme is designed to increase awareness of New Zealand and its arts, to build relationships with international partners and to develop international audiences and markets for New Zealand work.

Every year, Creative New Zealand invites and hosts a variety of international festival directors, curators, presenters, agents, partners and producers across the art forms to experience New Zealand arts and culture in the context of the place where it is made. The programme also offers New Zealand artists the opportunity to develop new or strengthen existing relationships.

Programme for 2016

In 2016 the performing arts programme is being delivered in partnership with the New Zealand Festival and the Auckland Arts Festival and will take place in Wellington and Auckland from 27 February to 5 March 2016.

Delegates will have a number of ways to engage with the arts sector in New Zealand, including attending 12 - 15 performances of New Zealand work across the two festivals, special showcase sessions in both Wellington and Auckland, taking part in two networking and information sharing sessions at the Performing Arts Network of New Zealand Arts Market in Wellington, attending rehearsals by local companies and meeting with local companies and performers.

Each year, the guests are strategically selected to align with Creative New Zealand’s International Programme. The programming interests of this year’s delegation include dance, music, theatre, comedy, cabaret, circus, physical theatre, spoken word and children’s theatre and they represent a wide range of festivals, cultural institutions, venues and producers.
