The Performing Arts Network NZ (PANNZ) Market and Sounds Aotearoa will be held 26-28 February 2014 at Macs Function Centre in Wellington.
Supported by Creative New Zealand, these events provide a platform for artists and producers to network, collaborate, and pitch their work to national and international venues and festivals that attend to see the New Zealand work that is available and programme their seasons.
Sounds Aotearoa and PANNZ joining forces will allow a more streamlined approach and sharing of resources for two markets that already share similar goals and target audiences. The market also sits alongside NZ Festival and NZ Fringe Festival in the calendar, which makes for a busy but productive time for the industry.
“This collaboration is something that we started to think about 14 months ago when both markets were being planned to be held in Auckland. For both Mark and I it seemed like a natural alliance and we are thrilled that it has finally coming to fruition,” says Sounds Aotearoa Event and Programme Director Emere Wano.
This year also sees a new partnership with Blue Heeler Network in Australia trialling Cyberpaddock, an online networking tool for the industry. This system will make pitch selection more transparent, whilst also providing an online database for producers and presenters, and a connection to our Australian neighbours for continuing the flow of work across the Tasman.
“The Blue Heeler Network is delighted to be working with our New Zealand colleagues via next year’s PANNZ Market. Touring the performing arts connects people and places. We are inspired by the Trans-Tasman relationships emerging via performing art touring and are excited that these relationships are formalising into something that can be truly connecting between artists, venues and communities in Aotearoa and Australia. Welcome aboard!”
Kane Forbes – Manager Performing Arts Touring, Regional Arts Victoria.
“There are many shared synergies between Sounds, PANNZ, and Cyberpaddock and we’re excited to be collaborating and working with both Emere and Kane, the net result will be better for presenters and producers and the wider industry.” says PANNZ Producer, Mark Westerby.
