The results for the first Development Fund for Arts Organisations and Groups round have been announced today.
Thirty-three arts organisations and groups have received a total of $579,005 towards capability building initiatives that will build vital skills and help create long term success.
The new fund is one of the eight For the Arts programmes that were launched last year after extensive consultation with arts communities around Aotearoa. The Development Fund for Arts Organisations and Groups has been designed to help build organisations’ capability in key areas such as financial resilience, cultural competency and responsiveness to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, audience engagement and accessibility.
James Wilson, Senior Manager Arts Development Services, says that this new fund directly addresses the arts community’s needs.
“We’ve received great applications from a range of organisations that are wanting to develop skills that will support them long-term. We knew from consultation with the sector that this new fund was needed, and it’s positive to be able to meet that demand with our new funding programmes,” he says.
Close to 100 applications were received and 33 applications have been funded. Organisations have received grants of up to $20,000 each, with a high number of applications focusing on financial resilience and audience engagement.
“Throughout this process we’ve heard from groups and organisations that this is valuable and wanted support. As this fund continues, we’ll be able to build a picture over time to chart the benefits of this funding. The goal is that this fund enables organisations to become more sustainable, by building knowledge, skills and confidence,” says James.
