Aspiring young Pasifika artists are expanding their creative horizons this week thanks to AUT and Tautai.
The Fresh Horizons programme brings together secondary school students for three days of intensive artmaking with leading Pasifika practicioners.
Organised by Tautai, a nationwide organisation supporting Pacific arts and artists in Aotearoa and hosted by the AUT School of Art and Design, Fresh Horizons begins today at the AUT City Campus in Auckland. Since 2001 Fresh Horizons has been helping aspiring artists to hone their talents, explore new ideas, and experience further education possibilities.
Nominated by their school, students are mentored by established Pacific artists to develop and realise a creative project, all at no cost to the student.
This year's artist mentors are :
Vea Mafile'o & Jeremiah Tauamiti - Moving Image
John Tanuvasa - Fashion Textiles
Pati Solomona Tyrell - Photography (Lighting)
