Four master artists from Tuvalu will visit New Zealand in mid-November as part of Creative New Zealand’s Pacific Heritage Exchange Programme.
The week-long visit will include the exchange of knowledge and skills with local artists and community groups.
The master artists specialise in the following practices:
- Pualeia Sitaake – master fale (house) builder and weaver
- Vaelei Vaelei – master canoe builder; maker of kafa (coconut sennit rope) and traditional fishing accessories (cast net, scoop nets, gill nets, and net mending)
- Tafitoka Filipi – master skirt maker and weaver
- Lifou Kokea – master weaver (mats, baskets, fans) and handicraft maker.
