A two day conference for writers aiming to publish September 17 & 18, University of Auckland
Tickets are on sale now for National Writers Forum workshops, masterclasses and panel discussions with leading writers and publishing industry experts.
Sessions for writers of all genres and levels of experience will cover a wide range of topics, from the nuts and bolts of writing a manuscript to copyright issues to how to get your book published. It’s a unique opportunity for authors to meet other writers, editors, festival directors, publishers and industry professionals from New Zealand and overseas.
Forum highlights:
- Chris Cleave, internationally acclaimed author of Everyone Brave is Forgiven, Incendiary and The Other Hand (a.k.a. Little Bee, number one on The New York Times Best Seller list) is headlining the National Writers Forum. He will deliver a keynote address, and a masterclass on conveying the psychology of society through characters.
- Scott Pack, UK-based publisher, writer and entrepreneur shares his ideas on the future of publishing and how New Zealand writers can expand their market.
- Master classes and workshops with Chris Cleave, novelist and short story writer Patricia Grace, fantasy writer Helen Lowe, YA author Anna Mackenzie, and Canadian author Kate Pullinger on writing for the digital era. Comic artists Toby Morris and Sarah Laing’s masterclass, The Personal is Political will explore the way illustration can inspire memoirs, poetry and political writing.
- Learn about Structure, Plot and Pace with crime writers Ben Sanders and Greg McGee and romance writer Catherine Robertson. Find out how to promote yourself and your books with international best-selling romance writer Nalini Singh.
- Are You There Yet? Getting Your Manuscript Ready: how to get your manuscript in shape.
- Publishing 101: the publishing process from completed manuscript through to design and distribution for both print and ebooks.
- Support, Sustain, Survive: how to keep going and succeed in a tough profession.
In the inaugural NWF debate some of the sharpest minds in the country will battle through words and wit the proposition that New Zealand books need special treatment. Toby Manhire, Paula Morris, Michele A’Court and Leilani Tamu will be moderated by Te Radar.
