More New Zealand performing artists and arts organisations than ever before will seek new international opportunities at the upcoming Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM).
Held in Brisbane from 19-23 February, APAM is an opportunity to exchange ideas, engage in critical dialogue, develop networks and to seek and secure partnerships and touring opportunities.
“It’s fantastic to have such a diverse number of performing artists and arts organisations embracing the opportunity APAM offers as a springboard for success in Australia and further afield,” said Jude Chambers, Creative New Zealand Manager, International Services and Initiatives.
New Zealand has a proud tradition of showcasing its diverse performing arts talent at this premier industry marketplace, which offers programmers from all over the world an opportunity to experience the best in performing arts from Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
This year APAM is curated by Brisbane Powerhouse, which is delivering an extended programme with more exchange and networking opportunities offering valuable experience and exposure.
“New initiatives like Performing Asia and the First Timers’ programme will offer our enthusiastic Kiwi contingent unique platforms to develop their networks and international capability. The First Nations Producers Exchange will deepen existing relationships and dialogue around indigenous-led market development,” said Jude Chambers.
Creative New Zealand is delighted to continue its partnership with the Australia Council for the Arts and Brisbane Powerhouse to ensure a dynamic presence from Aotearoa at APAM 2018.

Showcases
Valerie – presented by Last Tapes Theatre Company – full length showcase, Tuesday 20 February at 3.25pm, QPAC Playhouse Theatre (more information is available from the Valerie press kit).
Named stand-out cabaret of the year by the NZ Herald, Valerie is an interdisciplinary work using music, genetics and storytelling to tell creator Robin Kelly’s family history and perhaps its future.
Te Pō – presented by Nightsong – excerpt showcase, Thursday 22 February at 5.20pm, QPAC Playhouse Theatre.
A surprising comedy punctuated with Māori showband tunes, Te Pō is about searching for love lost and finding it again. This original, extraordinary and moving show brings a unique view of the world.
Global First Nations’ Exchange
The First Nations Exchange provides opportunities for indigenous performing artists and companies from around the world to network, increase visibility and mobilisation and to take part in indigenous-led market development discussion opportunities.

The Original Peoples’ Party
Several artists from Aotearoa will showcase at the Original Peoples’ Party, Tuesday 20 February from 9.30pm at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The Original Peoples’ Party promises to be a highlight of APAM 2018, presenting an outstanding selection of First Nations artists from around the world.

First Timers’ Programme
New this year, this programme matches first time attendees with an industry consultant who provides them the guidance and basic tools they need to navigate the busy APAM marketplace.

An opportunity for market-ready artists, producers and presenters to learn how to develop sustainable, long-term relationships and practices in the Asia-Pacific region, this programme offers a series of forums and events facilitated by industry leaders from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
