Foundation North doubles funding for arts projects that support Auckland diversity

Creative New Zealand is pleased to announce Foundation North as a partner in its new arts funding initiative that responds to the Auckland Region’s culturally diverse population.

The Auckland Diversity Project Fund offers support for projects that engage with Māori, Pacific and Asian communities and artists in the region.

Foundation North will match Creative New Zealand’s three-year investment, doubling the Fund from $200,000 per annum to $400,000 per annum. This injection brings the total investment in the fund to $1.2 million over three years.

“We are thrilled to form this strategic partnership with Foundation North,” says Chairman of the Arts Council of Creative New Zealand, Dr Dick Grant.

“We share a desire to cultivate greater engagement with Māori, Pacific and Asian audiences and artists. By working together we can achieve more with our investments to benefit an increasingly diverse Auckland population.”

Doubling the fund will allow arts organisations and communities to put forward larger proposals with potential for greater impact.

“We value this exciting opportunity to partner with Creative New Zealand on the Auckland Diversity Project Fund,” says Ken Whitney, Chair of Foundation North.

“Increasing engagement and participation in the arts for Asian, Pacific and Māori communities is an excellent fit with our goals to support Auckland’s diverse communities. Foundation North has worked closely with Creative New Zealand for many years now, and we are looking forward to combining resources to benefit Auckland’s cultural sector.”

Applications to the Auckland Diversity Project Fund for 2015 are open. The deadline for proposals is 5pm Wednesday 30 September 2015.

Up to $400,000 is available in each of 2015, 2016 and 2017 to established artists and arts organisations working in any artform. Partnerships and collaborative projects are encouraged. Applicants need to be Auckland-based or have a significant presence in the region.

About Foundation North

Foundation North (formerly the ASB Community Trust) holds in trust for the Auckland and Northland communities an endowment, or putea, of more than a billion dollars. This comes from the sale of the community’s shares in what was previously the Auckland Savings Bank. That endowment allows them to make millions of dollars in grants each year to not-for-profit groups in Auckland and Northland.

Foundation North supports projects and organisations that aim to foster access to, engagement with and experience in the arts, and supports projects that recognise and celebrate the diverse cultures of the region.
