More than $400000 offered in the latest Quick Response round

The October round of Quick Response has resulted in 75 grants totalling $418,585 being offered to support projects by New Zealand artists, practitioners and arts organisations. More than $1.5 million was requested by 247 applicants.

Results include:

  • General arts fund – 54 projects totaling $317,223 were supported. $1,355,388 was requested by 211 applicants.
  • Maori arts fund – 10 projects totaling $60,987 were supported. $130, 248 was requested by 20 applicants.
  • Pacific arts fund – 11 projects totaling $40,375 were supported. $95,573 was requested by 16 applicants.

Quick Response Grants are a platform for emerging artists to gain support for their projects. In this round, 19 of the grants were to emerging artists including:

  • Alice Canton from Christchurch towards the writing and development of a new New Zealand theatre work
  • Daniel Sintes from Christchurch who has been awarded a grant to help present a tap dance show that references popular culture
  • Marita Hewitt from Auckland to assist her to attend a residency at the pottery workshop in Jingdezhen, China
  • Bridget Reweti from Wellington towards her attendance at a visual and digital arts residency at the Banff Arts Centre, Canada
  • Tanu Gago from Auckland towards a group exhibition by Pasifika and Māori visual artists during Auckland Pride Festival 2016.

Supported projects will take place throughout New Zealand with a high number in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and others in the Manawatu, Wanganui, the West Coast of the South Island, Otago, Northland and the Chatham Islands.  New Zealand artists have also been supported to do projects in Australia, China, the Netherlands and the United States.

Nineteen of the supported projects are towards the creation of artwork with a further nine being supported for the performance of artwork and seven for publications and workshops.

Quick Response applications are assessed and moderated by Creative New Zealand staff. Recommendations are made to the Senior Manager, Arts Funding and the Chief Executive for final decisions and ratification.
