Tihei mauri ora!
E nga mana, e nga reo, e nga karangatanga maha o nga hau e wha. Tenei te mihi atu ki a koutou katoa. Tena koutou katoa.
After a six year absence from the stage, playwright and director Hone Kouka (Ngati Porou / Ngati Kahungunu / Ngati Raukawa) returns to the Wellington stage with his new play, an epic family drama Tu.
Inspired by the award winning novel by Patricia Grace (Ngati Toa, Ngati Raukawa, Te Ati Awa), Tu is a sweeping epic, weaving text and image, Tu brings redemption to a man in exchange for his long carried burden.
Hone’s previous work includes Nga Tangata Toa and the internationally renowned Waiora. In 2004, The Prophet premiered at the New Zealand International Arts Festival successfully touring both Aotearoa New Zealand and the Hawai’ian Islands.
Tu will premiere in Wellington, at Studio 77, 77 Fairlie Tce, Victoria University of Wellington.
As part of a Development Season, Tu will be showing for four nights only, premiering 7.30pm, Wednesday November 24 until Saturday November 27, 2010.
Creative work will continue on the play once the curtain has fallen on Saturday November 27.
Tu is produced by Wellington based Tawata Productions, who brought you the charming musical He Reo Aroha.
The large scale production Tu has been developed by Tawata Productions over the last 12 months with thanks to funding from Te Waka Toi.
