Auckland Theatre Company’s lavish venue for its end of year musical Cabaret is set to become Auckland’s ‘arty central’ on the waterfront this November to December.
Work on the Salon Perdu Spiegeltent in the Auckland Viaduct begins today.
Auckland Theatre Company has historically used SKYCITY Theatre for its end of year musical; however, since the theatre is being transformed into a sports theatre, the venue is unavailable for ATC to use.
Rather than give up on its plan to play a Christmas musical Auckland Theatre Company made the set back an opportunity by opting to programme CABARET using an authentic European cabaret tent as the venue in order to create a real Kit Kat Klub for Aucklanders to experience.
The Salon Perdu is a European Mirror Tent (spiegeltent) – the ultimate cabaret and music salon. Spiegeltents are hand-made pavilions used as travelling dance halls, bars and entertainment salons since they were created in the early 20th century. There are only a hand-full of these unique and legendary ‘tents of mirrors’ left in the world today.
Auckland Theatre Company is setting up the venue as a total Christmas event destination. There are two great locations to meet up with friends beforehand for a drink or a bite to eat: le Salon Perdu itself or the Cabaret Lounge Bar.
