2011 WAA Conference Seattle delegate applications sought

Creative New Zealand invites applications from performing arts producers to attend the Western Artists Alliance (WAA) Performing Arts Market in Seattle, USA 29 August to 2 September 2011.

Creative New Zealand invites applications from performing arts producers to attend the Western Artists Alliance (WAA) Performing Arts Market in Seattle, USA 29 August to 2 September 2011.

The WAA Performing Arts Market gathers presenters, artists, and agents from the USA, Canada, the Pacific and beyond around the shared goal of programming and presenting live performances. Creative New Zealand identifies WAA as a strategic market for entry into USA performing arts touring circuits and presenting networks. Its annual occurrence and roving location on the West Coast of the USA gives it a geographical and strategic fit with our international objectives.

Creative New Zealand seeks to achieve the following objectives through its presence at WAA:

  • Secure US agents and representation for New Zealand companies and producers
  • Secure touring engagements for New Zealand work throughout the USA, Canada and the Pacific
  • Provide NZ participants with knowledge and insight about the USA market
  • Establish international contacts and networks
  • Create a shared learning experience amongst professional NZ practitioners

Independent producers may apply provided that:

  • they are a professional New Zealand based producer or self-managing artist
  • they clearly identify the USA as a market for their work and have an international marketing strategy/plan to support this
  • the work they are promoting/producing is currently in repertoire, finished and ‘tour ready’ (having already completed a national tour and/or achieved critical and box office success)
  • they are in a position to consider any reasonable touring invitations that may arise from WAA
  • they have a strong track record of producing in New Zealand and/or internationally
  • they have a high quality website and DVD footage which profiles the works they are promoting
  • they are available to attend WAA between 29 August and 2 September 2011 (no date restrictions)

Creative New Zealand offers partial subsidies for independent producers to attend. This will cover:

  • A return economy airfare to Seattle
  • International airport to venue transfer costs
  • Accommodation (total 5 nights)
  • Registration fees for WAA
  • Access to the Creative New Zealand booth in the Commons

Deadline for Applications is: 5pm Friday 6 May 2011
