From brass bands to arts installations, from kapa haka to amateur theatre, from knitting circles to youth arts projects, from cultural festivals to projects using arts to affect social change – this is community arts in Christchurch and Canterbury.
If you are passionate about community-based arts, and:
- run a community arts group or organisation
- are an artist who works with communities
- a community theatre group
- own a venue that hosts community groups
- are a community adviser or organisation keen to develop arts projects
- are a funder or a policy maker
Then we would like to invite you to participate in a hui on the 22nd of March, 2014.
Creative New Zealand has made a commitment to community arts in Christchurch and Canterbury. The organisation has provided additional resource to the area following the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes and is investigating the potential for further support.
In addition, Christchurch City Council is developing an arts action plan for the city. The plan will look at areas of need, challenges, opportunities and priorities across the arts sector. Christchurch groups have responded to the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes in innovative and creative ways, enabling broad community participation in a wide range of arts based projects. How can we assist you to continue this innovation?
The day will be facilitated by Huia Lambie. The shape of the day will be based on Open Space Technology, which means you will be part of setting the agenda for the day.
