With many Christchurch artists currently displaced from their studios, Arts Canterbury is answering the call for an exhibition aptly named ‘ArtOpportunity’ which will be just that, for the artists and public alike.
Equally as important as putting an exhibition together is being able to display the work in a safe and tasteful environment and in as central a venue as possible.
With this in mind The George Hotel on Park Terrace has been booked for the 27th, 28th and 29th May.
On display will be various art forms including paintings, weaving, sculpture, jewellery, ceramics, glassware – work of artists who have lost their display spaces due to the earthquakes. One artist had just one painting undamaged as her floor was unable to be walked on due to earthquake damage, and was covered in damaged work spanning the years. She was so grateful for the opportunity.
The exhibition has been made possible with funding assistance from Creative Communities Christchurch and Creative New Zealand from their special fund to assist Christchurch artists. The gratitude and comments from exhibiting artists has proved already that this exhibition is creating a feel good event for the artists and public alike.
