Creative New Zealand is providing a total of $42,000 to 10 Christchurch-based arts organisations to support their marketing and organisational development needs post-earthquakes.
This targeted funding is part of Creative New Zealand’s commitment to the Christchurch arts infrastructure within its Capability Building programme.
“Supporting the organisational development of targeted Christchurch arts groups is a strategic priority for us over the next three years,” says Creative New Zealand Senior Manager Cath Cardiff.
“Results from a self-assessment survey with some of our investment clients showed that Christchurch organisations were in particular need of support. We also identified 10 organisations from the wider Christchurch arts sector and worked with them to tailor our support to their highest priority area.”
The organisations receiving support through these grants are:
- The Physics Room
- Christchurch School of Music
- Rekindle
- Christchurch Transitional Architecture Trust (FESTA)
- Arts on Tour
- CoCA Gallery
- New Zealand Choral Federation
- Christchurch Arts Festival
- ArtBox
- Christchurch City Choir
The grants will go towards building skills and knowledge in strategic planning, marketing and market research, website development, sponsorship and social media over the next 12 months.
“Support in the area of market research will provide hugely valuable insights for us for the future. We are absolutely delighted to have this opportunity,” says Christchurch City Choir’s Marketing and Concert Manager Phillippa Boa.
This latest investment is part of Creative New Zealand’s wider focus on supporting the arts in Christchurch. It has committed over $1 million in funding for arts initiatives in Christchurch in the 2013/14 financial year. This includes providing $300,000 to subsidise the cost of hiring the VBASE Arena for certain performing arts events and $250,000 to the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra to match new funding from new sponsors, donors and other fundraising initiatives. In addition to this, Creative New Zealand has committed over $2.75 million in earthquake related grants since June 2011.
“Creative New Zealand will continue to support Christchurch’s arts community in practical ways, both immediately and into the future – we are in this for the long term,” says Cath.
