Annual Arts Grants offer funding for established artists, arts practitioners and arts organisations with a strong track record of funding from Creative New Zealand to present a regular or continuous programme of activity over 12 months and/or produce a significant event or project.
Who got funded this round
Our Annual Arts Grants funding attracted considerable interest, with many high-calibre applications, with the total request more than three times the available budget.
We’ve gone from having $3.6 million available to invest in Annual Arts Grants in 2021 to having $2.8 million in 2022. This is because in 2021 we had additional money to invest in Annual Arts Grants as a result of the one-off funding boost we received from the Government last year to help the arts sector respond to the challenges of the Delta variant of COVID. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to boost this year in the same way and have had to return to our original budget. You can read more about this here. This means that we are unable to support many of the excellent applications we received.
Arts Council Chair Caren Rangi recently said, “We’ve been saying to the arts sector for the past couple of years that while we’re grateful to have been able to draw on our financial reserves to support the arts community through the impacts of COVID-19, we also knew that it would hamper our ability to sustain long-term funding and support. This year we were particularly challenged by our reduced financial capacity, and the reality is we’ll continue to face these challenges.”
We received 50 eligible applications, with a total of $7,128,826 requested.
