Creative New Zealand is inviting talented New Zealand musicians and composers to apply for up to $47,500 across three music scholarship programmes.
The scholarship programmes are designed to enable New Zealand musicians to progress their careers globally, further developing their profile and potential.
“These music scholarships offer New Zealand musicians and composers the opportunity to advance their creative and professional practice in an international context,” says Cath Cardiff, Creative New Zealand Senior Manager, Arts Development Services.
“Last year’s recipients were able to continue their music studies at some of the world’s top performing arts institutes in New York, Denmark, United Kingdom and Australia.”
The New Zealand/Aotearoa Music Scholarships
Each year, up to two New Zealand/Aotearoa Music Scholarships enable young musicians to undertake study or gain further musical experience at a tertiary institution in New Zealand or overseas. Up to $16,000 is available in 2019 for up to two scholarships.

Jack McGill Music Scholarship
The Jack McGill Music Scholarship was established in 1985 with interest from a bequest by Jack Wynnegate McGill. It supports young music practitioners who wish to further their music studies overseas, with priority given to pianists. Up to $6,500 is available in 2019.

Edwin Carr Foundation Scholarship
The Edwin Carr Foundation Scholarship was established in 2004 with interest from the estate of the late Edwin Carr. It is open to outstanding New Zealand composers wishing to further their studies overseas. Up to $25,000 is available in 2019.
