Trick of the Light Theatre and Zanetti Productions are a step closer to realising their global ambitions after being selected to take part in Creative New Zealand’s new International Coaching Programme.
The pilot year of this initiative aims to support performing artists and producers to build capacity for international success by connecting them with mentors who bring knowledge of current international trends, fresh ideas, best practice advice and a network of off-shore contacts.
“We are delighted to offer this support to such innovative practitioners. Both Trick of the Light Theatre and Zanetti Productions have had some success overseas and are focused on taking their international touring and activity to the next level,” said Jude Chambers, Creative New Zealand Manager, International Services and Initiatives.
Independent theatre company Trick of the Light Theatre will work with Tony Reekie, an internationally respected performing arts expert and former Director of Imaginate, the Scottish development organisation for young people’s theatre. The company’s aim is to develop a sustainable international touring model while continuing to produce premier work including shows for cross-over audiences of adults and older children.
After becoming one of New Zealand’s most foremost independent production houses in just over a year, Zanetti Productions will work with Wolfgang Hoffman, who has programmed over 1,000 shows and events as Director of German-based theatre booking agency Aurora Nova. Zanetti Productions is seeking to develop its own international performance capabilities, and also investigate structures for assisting with international touring for New Zealand artists.
“I’d like to acknowledge the Goethe-Institut for partnering with Creative New Zealand on this initiative and also the valuable support of Auckland’s Basement Theatre, and Wellington’s Capital-E,” said Jude Chambers.
Basement Theatre will co-host Wolfgang and Capital-E will support Tony’s visit by helping to connect them with artists and producers through a variety of events and meetings in February and March.
