APO performance nominated in international radio awards

An Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) performance on Radio New Zealand has been selected as a finalist in the 2017 New York Festival’s International Radio Program Awards for the worlds best radio programmes.

Among other nominations, Radio New Zealand has been shortlisted in the Best Live Sound category for the 2016 live broadcast of Verdi’s Otello, the APO’s Trusts Community Foundation Opera in Concert, performed in association with New Zealand Opera.

The NYF® International Radio Program Awards are judged online by over 100 directors, producers, writers, reporters, creative directors, program directors and various other radio industry experts from across the globe.

Of the nomination, APO CEO Barbara Glaser says, “We are delighted this spectacular performance has been recognised as a world-leading radio broadcast and congratulate Radio New Zealand on this, and all their nominations. RNZ’s skills in expertly capturing the complex sound of a full symphony orchestra is vital to the APO in taking our music beyond the concert hall.

“The APO’s livestreams and broadcasts are currently seeing a huge surge in popularity. Last night’s Bayley’s Great Classics: Sound the Horn concert was not only broadcast live on Radio NZ Concert but concurrently video livestreamed on the APO’s website and Facebook page, RNZ’s website, the New Zealand Herald’s Facebook page and the UK’s Classic FM’s Facebook page. Subsequently, viewing figures reached over 70,000, which has smashed all kinds of records for us and provides even further proof of our growing global audience.”
