For the first time Creative New Zealand will support Objectspace to help local jewellery makers with global ambitions make the right connections at an influential international trade exhibition.
Part of the Handwerksmesse International trade fair for Skilled Handicrafts, the Schmuck jewellery exhibition is the oldest of its type in the world. Held annually in Munich, it is highly regarded on the international jewellery exhibition calendar and next year will take place in March.
Through this partnership Creative New Zealand is seeking to leverage the sector knowledge and expertise of Objectspace to benefit artists operating internationally. By taking a leadership role Objectspace will have the opportunity to create an enduring relationship with the Handwerksmesse organisation, which will benefit artists now and in the future.
“We’re delighted to be working alongside Objectspace to continue our investment in the international market development of New Zealand jewellery,” said Jude Chambers, Creative New Zealand International Programme Manager.
“With deep sector knowledge Objectspace is well placed to develop and expand on existing relationships. They will play a pivotal role in connecting our practising object, applied art and design artists with the right people to help make the most of these international opportunities,” she said.
Objectspace Director Kim Paton said she is confident New Zealand artists will benefit greatly from attending. “All of the artists who are selected to exhibit at Schmuck are chosen because of their ability to create outstanding jewellery that appeals to international markets.”
Objectspace will liaise between the fair and exhibiting New Zealand artists, co-ordinate freighting requirements, as well as helping connect artists with people and opportunities during the fair.
“I’m looking forward to helping ensure our artists can realise their potential internationally,” said Kim Paton.
Creative New Zealand will support artists with flights and accommodation for Schmuck in Munich from 7-17 March 2018. Those accepted to attend emerging artist competition Talente, which is also part of the Handwerksmesse International trade fair, will be assisted with freighting support.
Reminder: the closing date to apply to exhibit at both Shmuck and Talente is tomorrow, October 6.
