“Choreographer and company founder Neil Ieremia expresses ideas all his own, offering insights on the human condition that are both individual and universal.”
Pioneer Press, St. Paul, Minnesota, 2013
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas in true Black Grace style, Xmas Verses is a collection of original dance works laced with humour, full of invention and choreographed by one of our most celebrated artists, Neil Ieremia.
The stellar cast of nine dancers will perform to an eclectic mix of music ranging from Otis Redding to 2Pac, and New Zealand’s own Fat Freddy’s Drop.
Neil Ieremia’s dance company Black Grace, founded in 1995, is one of New Zealand’s leading contemporary dance groups. Neil draws from his Samoan and New Zealand roots to create innovative dance works that reach across social, cultural and generational barriers. The work itself is highly physical, rich in the story telling traditions of the South Pacific and expressed with raw finesse, unique beauty and power.
2013 has been another big year for Black Grace full of performance engagements, including a 5 ½ week tour of North America and performances at various New Zealand festivals; Festival of Colour, Southland Festival of Arts, Taranaki International Arts Festival and Christchurch Arts Festival.
Come and join us for our only home game this year - iron your favourite t-shirt, put on your best jandals, and come laugh along to some Xmas Verses.
