Talk at Auckland Museum tonight Damian Skinner talking about Metadomestic

Join us after hours at the Museum to hear Damian Skinner, Curator of Applied Art and Design, discuss the recent European exhibition Metadomestic, curated by Monica Gaspar.

Metadomestic explored the impact of 'the applied' in contemporary art, craft and design. It represented a rehabilitation of the concept of the 'applied arts', and a provocative intervention into the practices of craft and design. Fuelled by the discussion around 'critical design', Gaspar's exhibition jettisoned any responsibility to 'the crafts', and instead took seriously the idea of applied art as a concept with important implications across the field of visual arts. In this talk, Damian Skinner will introduce Gaspar's exhibition and explore the various ways it pushes craft discussions in new directions.

Damian Skinner is Curator of Applied Art and Design at Auckland War Memorial Museum, and a Newton International Fellow at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge. His most recent project was Kobi Bosshard: Goldsmith, an exhibition and publication in association with Objectspace.
