A biennial exhibition featuring 43 artists from 17 countries opened the 2010 International Ceramics Festival in Taipei Countys Yingge Township in July. The Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum exhibition features a total of 105 works, said Ching Min-liang, director of the bureau.
The curator of the exhibition, entitled “Korero,” is Moyra Elliott from New Zealand, who the museum selected from 64 candidates.
She said that “korero” means “to speak” in Maori and that she hopes viewers will have lively “conversations” with the ceramic pieces on display.
“My approach is to produce a show that includes multiple works so viewers can see the work of artists at the highest level, artists who do not usually enter competitions, such as Ron Nagle and Alev Siesbye,” Elliott told the Central News Agency.
The organizer wanted an event where the curators thought processes could be easily followed by a wide audience, she said, adding that the ceramic works on display had many stories to share with visitors.
“The central feature of the event is many interesting and famous works by well-known artists worldwide, such as various cups made by American artist Ron Nagle, and Big Flower by Japanese artisan Mariko Isozaki, as well as Alev Siesbyes bowls, which show amazing magic,” she said.
In addition to the exhibit, the festival will also invite people to participate and learn to make ceramics, and will include a variety of other activities, Ching said.
The exhibition will run through the end of October.
