New Zealand artists and companies have secured onward international touring opportunities as a result of their involvement in the NZ at Edinburgh season last year.
This follows the strong impact New Zealand made in Scotland at the 2014 Edinburgh festivals last August, with coveted awards, sold-out shows, strong media coverage and positive reviews.
The New Zealand companies receiving further Creative New Zealand support after successful performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Edinburgh International Jazz and Blues Festival last year are:
- Royale Productions – support towards a season of Generation of Z in the East End of London, April-July 2015
- Java Dance Company – support to tour Back of the Bus in the United Kingdom in 2015
- Black Grace – support to perform at the Holland Dance Festival and throughout the Netherlands in 2016
- The Troubles – support to perform at the famous Spiegeltent at Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August and Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg South Africa in September 2015
- Little Dog Barking – support to tour Duck, Death and the Tulip to India and the United Kingdom in 2015
“Huge congratulations to Royale Productions, Java Dance, Black Grace, The Troubles and Little Dog Barking. We wish them all the best for their upcoming tours this year,” says Creative New Zealand Senior Manager Cath Cardiff.
Creative New Zealand is providing further support to help with travel and freight and re-staging of the shows from the last round of its International Presentation Fund. This fund supports touring, international engagements and invitations that are a direct result of Creative New Zealand initiatives to develop international markets.
“It’s fantastic to see this follow up as a result of all the hard work, international exposure and relationships these talented New Zealand artists built during the Edinburgh season last year.”
The NZ at Edinburgh 2014 season was supported by Creative New Zealand to showcase New Zealand arts and culture on the world stage, to engage with international arts practitioners and to develop new audiences, buyers and networks. Creative New Zealand funding helped more than 200 New Zealand artists to participate in seven festivals in Edinburgh, regarded as the largest arts market in the world.
Artists or arts organisations interested in presenting at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe can attend a special forum being held next week in partnership with Auckland Arts Festival. Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Kath Mainland, CBE, and producers who took work to Edinburgh in 2014 will share knowledge and provide advice on presenting and promoting work at the world’s largest festival. Attendees will also learn about updated Creative New Zealand funding guidelines that relate to international presentation.
