NEW ZEALAND COMPOSER WINS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

Wellington-based composer Jonathan Crehan has won the Classical Marimba League Composition Competition (CML) with his work, Bold Spark. The CML director of the American competition, Nathan Daughtry said they had received more entries this year than any previous year, so Crehan ‘should be very pleased’.
Winning this competition will allow Jonathan to have his composition, Bold Spark performed at fourteen music conservatories around the globe, published in America through C. Alan Publications and professionally recorded in 2010.
Speaking today, Crehan said, “It’s a real honor and surprise to win a big competition like the CML, and I’m excited to see where my career goes from here.”
The Classical Marimba League Composition Competition was created in 2007 to expand the international repertoire for the marimba as well as helping advance the careers of talented composers.
Jonathan Crehan has enjoyed considerable success of late, winning the 7th ADAM International Cello Festival Young Composer Competition last year along with the Orpheus Publications Composition Competition in Australia.
