Lisa Tomlins raises the temperature at Soundstage

An intimate Sunday evening performance by Lisa Tomlins with Twinset

A quick Google search for Lisa throws up an impressive array of gig listings but very little information about what makes Ms. Tomlins tick. We don’t think it’s because she is shy - the resounding theme is her powerful and sultry voice and her association with nearly every band in the Wellington region. Not to mention her very chic side project as a pole dancing teacher and performer.

Perhaps it’s because she is one of the most hard working vocalists in town and she’s far too busy singing to blow her own horn. So Downstage will do it for her by presenting her centre stage and at the top of the bill.

A night of sultry jazz, lounge & boogaloo, Lisa will trace a sophisticated journey through her interpretations of songs that inform the performer she is now, as well as hitting us with her original compositions with Wellingtons own Twinset as her backing band.

One of New Zealands most versatile performers, Lisa has been the veritable gun-for-hire for many local bands, cementing her place as a much sought after vocalist. She has worked with Rhombus, Shaken Not Stirred, Hollie Smith, Deva Mahal, Shapeshifter, Fat Freddys Drop, Trinity Roots, Little Bushman, Strike and on many theatre and cultural events such as Michael Parmenter’s Jerusalem.

Twinset’s sound is characterised by a pulsing organ bass, rich textural chords, and a driving R+B-style beat. This is feel-good, heart-felt music that the Dominion Post describes "as sharp as the creases on their vintage suits."

Dont miss this one-off, intimate Sunday evening performance.

“Lisa Tomlins stood out, not only because of her strong and beautiful voice during the acapella song Angels but also the energy and enthusiasm she contributed throughout that made her a joy to watch.”
