Have your say in Creative New Zealands literature review

Creative New Zealand is calling for participation in our review of how we can best support and develop New Zealand literature.

What will be affected by our review?

The review will help Creative New Zealand to prioritise its resources to support New Zealand literature.  For example, we are proposing ways to increase the support available for writers to research and create new work and considering how we might support self-published work.

The review also asks for views on the literature key role funded by the Toi Tōtara Haemata (Arts Leadership) investment programme and our literature funding priorities.

What has happened so far?

We have collated information about our recent support for literature.

We also convened a focus group of writers, publishers, festivals, and organisations in New Zealand literature. The focus group was asked for their assessment of how Creative New Zealand can best support New Zealand literature over the next five years.

How do you contribute to the reviews?

We have published a draft report outlining how we might respond to changes in the ways people are reading, writing, reviewing and distributing literature.

The draft report raises a number of questions. Your answers to these questions, and any other views you have, will contribute to the success of this review.

You can provide your views by:

  • completing an online questionnaire
  • sending us an email
  • sending us your written comments by mail

More details on how to respond are contained in the Literature Review Draft Report.

What is the timeframe?

Our deadline for receiving your response is 9am on Monday 3 November 2014.

Your responses will be collated and reported to the Arts Council and your views will inform our recommendations to the Arts Council.  We expect to publish our final report in March 2015, which is slightly later than earlier indicated.
