Free tickets to Christchurch Symphony Orchestra 2 October

The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, in association with Ballantynes, is offering residents affected by the earthquake a number of free tickets to its performance of Bernstein and Sondheim at the Christchurch Town Hall this Saturday at 8pm. If you would like a ticket, please come along to Ground Floor reception at Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street, and ask about the offer. There is a limit of two free tickets per person.

The concert

The music from West Side Story, arguably Leonard Bernstein’s most famous musical theatre work, will be among the programme highlights in this stylish concert production. Bernstein, a Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated conductor, composer, author, music lecturer and pianist, was described by the New York Times as “one of the most prodigally talented and successful musicians in American history.” He wrote three symphonies, two operas, five musicals and numerous other pieces.

Stephen Sondheim is another phenomenally successful American composer and lyricist for stage and screen, the winner of an Academy Award, multiple Tony Awards, multiple Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. He has been called "the greatest and perhaps best known artist in the American musical theatre." His most famous scores include A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods and Assassins. He got his start as the lyricist for West Side
Story and also Gypsy.

This will be an unforgettable concert production – one not to be missed.
