Wellington Dance Festival   Contract Position Available

We are looking for a self motivated person to lead the planning for a new Wellington Dance Festival. This festival is to replace the Dance Your Socks Off festival, which ended in 2009. The position will be part time between March and July 2010, based at the DANZ office, Toi Poneke Arts Centre, 69 Abel Smith Street, Wellington. A description of the role is below.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Role Title: Wellington Dance Festival Contract

Purpose of Role:

The contractor is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of a Wellington Dance Festival strategic plan and initial planning of the first festival. This will include community consultation to develop a festival with the following vision:

A festival celebrating the diverse dance of Wellington – comprising opportunities to attend a wide range of dance events, both participation and performance, with curated links between the professional and community sectors.

It is envisaged that the first festival would be held in June or August 2011

Reports to:
Wellington Dance Festival Advisory Panel

Executive Director – DANZ (Dance Aotearoa New Zealand) – will provide line management and support

Relationships:

Wellington Dance Festival Advisory Panel

DANZ

Wellington City Council (Grants, City Arts and Recreation Wellington)

Community dance organisations including Maori, Pacific and other ethnic groups

Public and private sector dance providers

Professional dance companies

Freelance contemporary dance community

Other regional festivals

Venues

Development of Strategic Plan
Including:

Background research

Recommendations for an organisational structure including governance

A festival business plan including marketing , programming, financial and funding

A long term plan (5 years)

Identifying potential partners


Funding
To develop funding applications over period of contract

Consultation

To identify key stakeholders in a new Wellington Dance Festival (within and beyond the dance sector)

To identify and balance the need for direct provision and working in partnership with community organisations

Maintain an up-to-date Wellington Dance Festival database.

To identify new opportunities to increase community awareness of and participation in dance activities and events through a festival programme

Desired skills:

Strong written and oral communication skills

Self motivated

Knowledge of Wellington dance sector

Understanding of strategic planning process


Timeline:

This position is a part time fixed term contract working out of the DANZ office at Toi Poneke Arts Centre, 69 Abel Smith Street, Wellington.


Remuneration:

Fixed fee $5,000 (plus GST if applicable)
