Touch Compass Dance Company 2014 season to present inspiring new works

Touch Compass Dance Company returns with a season of inspiring new works in Auckland in August.

Two new dance works and a unique film/dance project feature in Touch Compass Dance Company’s 2014 season Acquisitions '14 in Auckland in August.

Curated by artistic director Catherine Chappell, Acquisitions ’14 features three works and has a week-long season at Q Theatre in Auckland from 6-10 August.

Touch Compass Dance Company is New Zealand’s first and foremost inclusive dance company and has been acclaimed internationally for its works with disabled and non-disabled dancers.

Touch Compass Dance Company is New Zealand’s first and foremost inclusive dance company and has been acclaimed internationally for its works with disabled and non-disabled dancers.

Acquisitions ‘14 features the world premiere of Undertide – a film and live performance work by award-winning New Zealand/United States choreographers Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad; together with Watching Windows, a new work created by Catherine and the company dancers; and Touch Compass’ interactive DanceBox project will be displayed in the Q Theatre Loft foyer throughout the season.

Undertide is an exquisite, mesmerising feast where subtle movements guide the dancers from within: It is the experience of living in a body and raises questions around the body’s vitality and how we experience life from the inside out.

Watching Windows is a new work created by company dancers with Catherine Chappell, which plays with the ideas of physical boundaries and limitations – an exploration of a place where bodies, objects and moments are hidden and revealed in a journey of discovery and intrigue.

Led by award-winning New Zealand film director Alyx Duncan, Touch Compass’ DanceBox is a combined company and community project bringing together film and dance in a collection of pieces created by the company dancers and shining a light on those profound times when life reveals itself and stories become part of a collection of special moments – a museum of life.

Touch Compass Dance Company presents Acquisitions ’14 at Q Theatre Loft from 6-10 August. Book tickets at Q Theatre or by phoning (09) 309 9771 or www.qtheatre.co.nz.
