Kahikatea and Totara programmes aligning existing clients with investment strategy

Creative New Zealand is aligning our investment programmes with our new Investment Strategy Te Ara Whakamua 2018–23, which will guide our funding decisions and deliver our strategic outcomes.

Through a Request for Proposals, Creative New Zealand is seeking proposals from current recipients of Toi Uru Kahikatea and Toi Tōtara Haemata funding in order to achieve the outcomes identified in the Investment Strategy. In particular, the Investment Strategy identifies:

  • Dynamic Arts
  • Resilient Arts Sector
  • Diversity and Reach

Request for Proposals Toi Tōtara Haemata and Toi Uru Kahikatea investment programmes (pdf 8.8MB)

Proposals must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 3 May 2019 via the Creative New Zealand Portal.

The 2019 investment programmes funding round (for funding commencing in January 2020) is only open to proposals from organisations that have a current funding contract for either the Tōtara or Kahikatea funding programmes.

Over time, we expect our investment programmes will better reflect the diversity of New Zealand’s population and its arts practices. We also expect to extend the reach of our investment to make arts attendance and participation accessible to more communities.

About the investment strategy and investment programmes review

Creative New Zealand’s Investment Strategy Te Ara Whakamua 2018–23 will guide our investment from 2018/19 with the aim of ensuring we are building an investment portfolio that will meet the future needs of the arts in Aotearoa.

The Investment Strategy reflects and supports Creative New Zealand’s Pacific Arts Strategy 2018-2023, which sets out how it will prioritise its investment in the development of Pacific Arts over the next five years. Developed in consultation with the Pacific Arts community, its vision is of a powerful future Pacific Arts sector that is led by passionate and skilled Pasifika people, for Aotearoa, Te Moana-nui-a-Kiva and the world. The strategy applies to all of Creative New Zealand’s programmes and policies, including arts funding, investments, arts grants, international capability and advocacy programmes.

The Investment Strategy also reflects and supports the high-level intentions of Creative New Zealand’s Māori Arts Strategy 2019-2023. This strategy is currently in development and will be published during 2019.

The Kahikatea and Tōtara Investment programmes were reviewed to align the programme design to the Investment Strategy, ensuring it complements the Pacific and Māori Arts Strategies. The consultation was carried out in May and September 2018 and final changes were agreed in October 2018.
