This award promotes and encourages choreography in New Zealand contemporary dance, and especially the work of emerging choreographers. It was established in 1999 from a bequest by Mrs Lang.

- Loughlan Prior, $2,400 to represent his work in Toronto in 2017 (2016)
- Lucy–Margaux Marinkovich, $7,092 to attend two choreographic residencies in Malaysia and Singapore (2015)
- Brothers and Sisters Collective, $6,920 towards a final development workshop and performance of eye at the Tempo Festival. The Recipient of this was Luke Hana (2014)
- Hawaiki Tu Productions, $7,100 towards haka theatre wananga. The Recipient of this was Kura Te Ua (2013)
- Kelly Nash, $2,300 towards the development of Meme (Skin) (2012)
- Suzanne Cowan, $5,016 towards attending the Candoco International Artists Lab (2011)
