Koinei aku kaingakau Artists share their why in new vaccination campaign

In a social media campaign launched today (1 December 2021), Creative New Zealand is amplifying voices from the arts community to encourage vaccination.

While vaccination rates are rising in Aotearoa New Zealand, the social media campaign aims to connect with people who are yet to be vaccinated.

With artists front and centre, the campaign features well-known voices from the arts community sharing their ‘why’: why they do what they do, why they love their creative practice, and why they choose to be vaccinated. The artists will each offer their own perspective in a series of videos launching over the next two weeks on their own social media platforms.

Final release: Compilation video. Watch the compilation video on FacebookInstagram and Youtube

The artists involved in the campaign are musicians Pere Wihongi and Ria Hall, comedian Tofiga Fepulea’i, spoken word poet Stevie Davis-Tana and street artists Charles and Janine Williams. The campaign is being developed and delivered by creative agency Augusto.

“Artists understand that being able to come together is a core part of the wellbeing of any community or society,” says Creative New Zealand Chief Executive Stephen Wainwright.

“The Delta variant of COVID-19 has severely impacted the arts, culture and live events sector, which can’t viably operate with heightened alert levels and lockdowns. As we enter the new COVID-19 Protection Framework (or traffic light system), higher vaccination rates are crucial for the livelihood and future success of the sector.”

“As we move toward a time when we can enjoy arts and culture safely together again in Aotearoa, we need to encourage more people to be vaccinated.”

The campaign is part of Creative New Zealand’s broader advocacy work, which aims to promote the value of the arts and raise the profile and reach of the contribution that the arts, culture and creativity make to our lives.

Campaign videos will be first posted by the artists on their own platforms (release is staggered over the next two weeks), with Creative New Zealand then promoting the videos through its channels.
