Creative New Zealand will support showcases by New Zealand companies

As part of a partnership with Australia Council for the Arts and the Brisbane Powerhouse there will be up to two showcases available for New Zealand work. Creative New Zealand will provide a contribution to successful companies (maximum NZD $20,000 each) towards international flights, freight and accommodation. Creative New Zealand is also contributing to the production costs of the New Zealand showcases at APAM 2018 as part of the partnership.

New Zealand artists and companies are also eligible to apply to pitch at APAM 2018. New Zealand companies/artists that are selected and offered a pitch opportunity will need to cover their own expenses.

New Zealand companies need to apply online directly to APAM. APAM will manage the application process and eligibility check, and a New Zealand assessment panel (consisting of external assessors from the New Zealand arts sector and Creative New Zealand staff) will recommend up to two showcases and a shortlist of pitches to APAM for the final decision.

Creative New Zealand is currently working with the Australia Council for the Arts and the Brisbane Powerhouse to develop a mentoring programme to provide support for emerging artists and producers at APAM. Creative New Zealand will also continue its support towards the First Nations Producers Exchange in 2018. Further details about these initiatives will be available by October 2017.

Attending APAM as a delegate

Early bird delegate registrations open on 25 October 2017 (early bird rates available until early December 2017).  Delegate registrations are expected to sell out, so applicants are encouraged to register early on the APAM website.

Making an application to showcase or pitch

Please check the APAM website for full eligibility criteria to showcase or pitch at APAM 2018.

For showcase applications, the work must be current and have premiered within the last two years or will have premiered prior to APAM 2018 (e.g. the work has premiered or will premier between February 2016 and February 2018). For pitch applications, the work is in development and will not premier prior to February 2018.

What is APAM?

APAM is the premier industry event for contemporary performing arts in Australia and the Asia Pacific Region that brings the sector together to exchange ideas, experience new Australian and New Zealand work, engage in critical dialogue, build skills and partnerships, find new collaborators and investors, explore touring opportunities, and network with national and international peers.

In 2018, Brisbane Powerhouse will again present APAM activities and performances, with additional events held across local partner venues including the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts.

APAM 2018 will be presented by the Australia Council for the Arts in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse. Brisbane City Council is the Principal Supporter of APAM. The Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland and Tourism and Events Queensland, also proudly supports the event.
