A feast of French music dominates this concert, opening with a magnificently strutting Baroque overture by Rameau. Donald Nicolson features in WF Bach’s boisterous harpsichord concerto and Poulenc’s glittering Concert Champetre, full of wit and colour. For a thrilling finale, Douglas Mews takes charge of the glorious Town Hall Organ for Saint-Saëns’ great Organ Symphony. An enduring favourite with audiences everywhere, the Organ Symphony is French Romantic music at its finest.
