New Zealand Literature on the World Stage

With support from our International Programme, the Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ) has launched an exciting new international rights portal for New Zealand literature

The portal is a central hub with information about fiction, non-fiction and children’s literature available for international rights sales from publishers across Aotearoa New Zealand. It celebrates New Zealand’s rich and diverse storytelling and promotes work from Aotearoa to international markets. View the portal at at www.newzealandbooks.com

The rights portal was launched alongside Creative New Zealand’s international support of New Zealand’s presence at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (21–25 March 2022). Bologna is one of a number of international book fairs, including Frankfurt in October, that our publishers attend through a stand managed by the Publishers Association with Creative New Zealand support.

The New Zealand collective stands at these fairs offers a space for local publishers to exhibit and promote their titles in an international arena and is a collegial hub for business meetings and networking events. PANZ has done incredible work adapting to the changes brought about by COVID internationally and developed a hybrid approach to fairs, offering publishers the opportunity to participate on a virtual stand as well as being represented physically at the fair itself.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair (BCBF) is the world’s leading professional event dedicated to the children’s publishing industry, attracting over 1400 exhibitors and more than 29,000 visitors from around 80 countries. This year there are seven publishers presenting some of Aotearoa’s finest writers and we’re delighted for Beatnik Publishing who have been awarded the Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publisher of the Year (Oceania category).
