Last week, news reached us that the Venice Biennale Arte has been postponed to 2022 due to COVID-19, and will now take place from 23 April to 27 November 2022.
Despite the set-back, Creative New Zealand is fully committed and excited to present Yuki Kihara as New Zealand’s artist for the 59th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia.
Michael Moynahan, Arts Council Chair and Commissioner for the Biennale Arte 2021, says "Although a bit of a blow I quite understand why the authorities have made this decision. Creative New Zealand however remains committed to this event and excited by the work our artist Yuki Kihara and curator Natalie King is preparing for presentation. We will all just have to wait a little longer to see it."
Yuki says “Thanks to everyone who has shown me their support with the news of the postponement of Biennale Arte in 2022. The postponement gives me ample time to finish the work to make up for lost time as Covid-19 continues to unfold around the world.”
We’re working with Yuki, curator Natalie King and the wider creative team to build on the great work already underway. We look forward to presenting this exhibition in 2022 and will share further updates in due course.
