Creative New Zealand accepting applications to attend the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Creative New Zealand is accepting applications to present small scale works at next year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the next rounds of Quick Response and Arts Grants in January and February 2014.

To align with its strategic activity in Edinburgh in 2014 Creative New Zealand will consider applications for international airfares and freight to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014, as part of its contestable funding process.

To be eligible, applicants must be applying for support towards a production that has had a successful season in New Zealand or abroad, and an invitation from an Edinburgh venue.

All applications must include:

  • a copy of the invitation from the venue or a contract

  • a budget including all costs as well as projected income

  • contributions or other in-kind support provided.

The closing date for Quick Response Grants is 31 January 2014 and for Arts Grants is 28 February 2014.

Applications to attend fringe festivals have not been eligible for Creative New Zealand funding previously because applicants need to show that their host is making a contribution to the ‘landed costs’ of their exhibition or show.  This excludes fringe festivals because they are often open access and do not cover costs or pay fees.  Funding criteria has been changed temporarily for the two funding rounds above.

Landed costs are the expenses incurred when touring overseas such as accommodation, ground transport, venue hire and promotion expenses.
