Two Public Events for Booklovers in Wellington   Sat 13 March

Two public seminars (So you want to run a bookshop and Marketing your book to Independent Bookstores) are to be held by Booksellers New Zealand in Wellington, on Saturday 13 March 2010.

Public Seminar 1: So you want to run a bookshop?
Saturday 13 March, 9.30am – 12pm, Hotel InterContinental, Grey St, Wellington
Cost: $35.00 per person or $60.00 for a pair

Booksellers NZ Membership Manager, Cherie Arnott said the association is approached regularly by people who are contemplating, “or even dreaming,” about opening a bookshop.

“This seminar and workshop is designed to give those interested practical advice on everything from renting the right premises, to obtaining and managing stock, to not being afraid to visit the curious world of children’s books”.

Three experienced booksellers, John McIntyre of The Children’s Bookshop Wellington, Anna Hunt of Marsden Books, Wellington and Juliet Blyth, vicbooks Wellington will present the seminar. The session will include: choosing a location, costs and capital investment, rewards, and the lure of a good book, also the commitment needed to turn a dream into a successful business.

Cost: $35.00 per person or $60.00 for a pair

“In these challenging times, writing a book and having it published is only half the battle," says Booksellers NZ Membership Manager, Cherie Arnott. “We want to help by providing you with information and a first-hand account from two independent booksellers and a publicist. Independent bookstores can be willing, even indispensable partners in selling your book, so learning how to connect with them will make your marketing efforts more productive.

Two experienced bookstore operators, John McIntyre of The Childrens Bookshop in Wellington and Anna Hunt of Marsden Books in Wellington, along with a yet-to-be-named publicist, will feature in the seminar.

This session will cover many topics ranging from:

· How and when to approach bookstores

· Why booksellers’ expectations may differ from yours

· How authors events in bookstores work

· Whether hiring a publicist is a good idea

· What you should know about the politics of bookselling
