ADDITIONAL SUPPORT
Creative New Zealand also provides support for filmmakers through other pathways.
- Film-based organisations seeking support for an aspect of the presentation of an established film festival or recurrent film event. Applications must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- a record of having presented at least two successful film festivals
- a funding contribution from another film-based organisation (you cannot apply for more funding than what's being provided by a film-based organisation/s)
- distribution outcomes for SIPF/IFF previously funded projects
Support is to be considered through Creative New Zealand's Contestable Funding pathways. Please click here for an overview of these pathways.
- Short and feature filmmakers are eligible to apply to the New Zealand Film Commission for travel assistance if their film is invited into an international A-list film festival (for example Cannes or Sundance). Please see the Film Commission website for details of qualifying festivals and note that they are different for shorts and features.
- Films made with the support of SIPF or IFF are often accepted into significant "niche" festivals which are not on the A-list (i.e. dance and experimental film festivals) and therefore do not have access to Film Commission travel assistance. The following guidelines have been developed to allow for filmmakers whose SIPF/IFF supported films have been selected to screen at international non A-list film festivals:
- directors of films which have received production and/or post production funding support from SIPF/IFF are eligible to apply
- there will be a limit of one travel grant per film project
- a capped amount of $5,000 is available. This is to be directed towards travel, accommodation and per diem costs
- travel grants are to be considered through Creative New Zealand's Quick Response Grants pathway
- in addition to the standard Quick Response Grant application requirements applicants must also provide:
- a letter of invitation from the non A-list festival
- confirmation in writing from the New Zealand Film Commission's Short Film Sales and Marketing Manager that the non A-list festival would provide an important and significant opportunity for the filmmaker.
